| | | Scurlogstown Olympiad Annual Haymaking Festival - 2004
| | | | | This year's results: | | | | Scythe Cutting Competition:winner of the TARA STAINLESS PERPETUAL TROPHY presented by Mr.Tom OâReilly M.D., was Paul Cotter, Clare. | | | | There was a great exhibit of Rare Breed Animals, Arts & Crafts, Bee-keeping demonstration & Flax display, paint-artists at work, and a huge entry of jam, cakes & bread etc. for the Show Section. | | | | The Irish Tug Of War Association held The All Ireland Finals at this venue. Drumsna won the Bronze outpulling Breamore Farmers who included local men Pat Kelly & Johnnie Collins. Killylough (Monaghan) took Silver, and the winners were Boley (Wexford) anchored by Martin Keogh, World Plough Champion, and they now go forward to compete in the World Championships in the USA later in the year. Good luck to them. | | | | The IRISH PONY CLUB MOUNTED GAMES had over 100 ponies competing, giving wonderful entertainment as they displayed their many skills under the watchful eye of Aidan Foley. | | | | The Leinster Re-enactors created a Medieval & Viking period Crafts Village with Armoured Warriors across the river Boyne from Trim Castle. | | | | The Thatched Village was as splendid as ever & hosted the Wren Boys, the Dunderry Strawboys & Black Porter, providing music for the Period Wedding, & the Enfield Wren-Boys. | | | | The Woodturner, & Boyne eel sizzling on the pan & Malâs Working Model Farm & music by Cuscon & Bonnie were also highlights, as were the great Vintage Tractors & Machinery. | | | | Sheaf Tossing results: winner: Michael OâBrien (Clare) 59ft; 2nd: Finbar Connell(Cavan). The World Record stands at 62ft. | | | | Donkey Derby: Ladies: Emma Walsh. Gents: Alex Bavin, Maldova on Hector. Mixed: Dara Ward. | | | | The Evening ended in Jackâs with music provided by Fingertalk (who included musician Ronnie Reid, father of Mike of LMFM). A great finish to the Festival. Thanks to Mary & Jack for the food & refreshments. | | | | Fri. 18th 8.00pm. Festival opened with The HIGH NELLIES RIDE. 50 bikes left Trim Castle between thunder showers. 1st stop Marcies, met the Trim & Bohermeen AC runners, who carried the splendid new Torch from Teltown 30 to Trim Castle en route to Sally Rogers for food. The new Torch was designed, manufactured & presented to Scurlogstown Olympiad by Mr. Paul Byrnes, Kilkeen Rd., Dublin. The Torch is made of steel, Olympic Torch style, a fibre type haystack with a needle running through it. Scurlogstown also received a lovely plaque from Bohermeen AC for helping to preserve our Heritage & Culture. Thank you very much. | | | Mon. 21st 8.30pm. Ãigse Na MÃ in the Wellington Court Hotel.
